Our goal is to protect our water supply from toxic waste.
Thank you to the entire community!
We appreciate all the hard work, help and support on behalf of the residents of Highland Street Extension on Monday evening (12/10) to oppose the proposed disposal injection well.
People packed the community center building to show their opposition and to hear all the research that has been done. Since some people had to leave before all the public comment was taken, the EPA extended the time to submit public comments until December 17, 2012 to:
Mr. Stephen Platt, EPA Region III
Ground Water & Enforcement Branch
Office of Drinking Water & Source Water Protection (3WP22)
1650 Arch Street
Philadelphia, PA, 19103
Email: Platt.Steve@epamail.epa.gov
It is not too late to submit your concerns or anything else you learn. They told us it is better to know the facts. Any information we know on deep gas wells, coal mines and the area is important to their research.
We wish to thank all the community leaders that have worked with us side by side to show their concern and support. It was evident at the public hearing that we had done our job to present valid facts and research.
Thanks to Representative Gabler, Representative Smith, Representative George, Representative Thompson, Clearfield County Commissioners, Brady Township, Sandy Township, City of DuBois, DuBois School Board, Jefferson County Commissioners, the news media, Highland Street Extension Development residents and all the supporting community residents.
Great job! We are proud of everyone for working so well together! Thanks for showing your support!
Testimony showed what affects one of us will affect all of us. We gave the EPA a lot of information to review. The review process will take them some time and we will keep you informed.

Testimony due by December 17, 2012 to the EPA
DuBois Public Library has a copy of the draft permit application for review. The public notice and public comments are available at: http://www.epa.gov/reg3wapd/public_notices.htm#brady
Help would be appreciated in requesting a public hearing and submitting public comments before
December 17, 2012. Comments must state the nature of the issues proposed to be raised. Please include one reason that deals with private water well sources. (Click here for sample letter)
We would recommend that each person send a request for the hearing, as opposed to one per couple or family. Comments must state the nature of the issues proposed to be raised. Please include one reason that deals with private water well sources.
Some reasons:
• Possibility of a surface spill, going directly into the aquifer
• Methane migration into the aquifer
• Deep mines transmitting toxic fluid into water wells
• Deep wells transmitting toxic fluid into water wells (near proposed injection well site we already have three deep wells in same formation, Oriskany)
• Deep mines transmitting toxic fluid under the whole City of DuBois out to the DuBois Mall
• Is this proposed injection well in an earthquake prone area?
• Gas well on Zelman property (site of proposed disposal injection well) should be plugged
• Abandoned wells could provide a pathway for methane migration into drinking water wells
• Why is a toxic waste dump or toxic industrial activity being put into a residential area?

Brady Township residents need to show support for our rights.
Website developed in 2011, to inform area citizens about a proposed Class II D "disposal injection well". Information posted is to keep residents informed about this issue.
This website is maintained by local residents who are against toxic waste being disposed of in a "disposal injection well" in our residential area on Highland Street Extension, DuBois, Pennsylvania. Basically it is unacceptable to area residents to put a toxic liquid landfill close to water wells and water supplies. Residents view this as a "toxic waste issue" and not a "Marcellus Shale issue" even if this "disposal injection well" is to dispose of waste water from drilling or "frack" waste.
Windfall Oil and Gas located in Falls Creek, PA is applying to receive an EPA permit to install a new "disposal injection well" off Highland Street Extension in DuBois, PA. Once the EPA permit is applied for and public notice is given of the permit application residents have thirty days to request a public hearing. EPA will decide if a public hearing is necessary. Residents interested in objecting to the EPA permit must attend the public hearing and sign the speakers list, which also allows you to appeal the permit if it is issued. Information on this website discusses "quality of life" issues. Please keep in mind that the EPA permitting process is only concerned with "underground water supply sources". We have heard the EPA process will take time yet we must be ready to act immediately for the public hearing.
